New Laois Football Manager

(Oldest Posts First)

Many will say post this on the Laois page but if Donegal and Westmeath can have their posts re. a new manager here i feel Laois should be on the main page too.

I'd love to see Chris Conway, former Laois footballer, take the reins. He managed Knockbeg College to an All-Ireland Schools title, he's a passionate Laois man with an excellent gaa pedigree. Also at a good age, 39, and still playing top Senior Club Football for his club. He has young family and he may not apply.

I'd like to see a Laois man take the helm, who knows the club scene and talent. Joe Higgins is another candidate who has served his apprenticeship managing club in Laois and the Laois ladies.

Anyone with thoughts or news feel free topost.

We may be in division 4 but we were in division 2 only 2 years ago and spent most of the period 2002-2012 in division 1. There's some football in the county and all Laois Gaels crave progress.

I totally agree with the post KK but From what i've heard Conway isn't interested. Just bad timing with family.

Incase people are wondering why a KK man is posting so strongly on a Laois topic i was born in Laois, Laois mam and KK dad. Played football in Laois for a while before hurling in KK. Live on a border where Kilkenny people around the Railyard area support Laois in football.

One of Laois big problems is their footballers are nowhere near the level of fitness required. I see it with club, county fellas 'soft'looking, carrying spare flesh.

Next big problem, an old one is discipline. Drink as has been aired in public and also lads getting sent off in games. A sign of low morale the latter.

10 potential managers for Laois footballers, mostly homegrown. I'd rule out Pete McGrath if he's not interested in Westmeath.

Morale from what I hear is quite low after going to div 4 . A lot of talented players in Laois and a good manager who can motivate a lot of players is badly needed. Plenty of management experience out there and they should have no problem in acquiring the services of someone good. The question is - will the players respond positively and put in the hard work?

Are most of the panel pint drinkers or top shelf men?

Both unfortunately. Only i'd call most of them boys, not men.
