I was watching the Aidan O'Shea one last night & really enjoyed it. The one last week with Padraic Maher was good too.

It is a pity that those coming to our sports can play in games (usually challenges) but our lads going to their sports can only play in trials or novelties. The lad who traded with Aidan O'Shea was a superb athlete, even James Horan couldn't get over his footwork. He was built like steel, only problem with his Gaelic Football was the accuracy of his shooting.

Last night reminded me of a night in a pub in Dallas back in 2003. I was there with my cousin and another mess of a man. Some beer reps came in with a pass/punt/shoot American football type competition. Winners to go forward to the state finals & then a chance to be present at the superbowl.

Passing - throw an American ball at a board with rings drawn on it. My Cousin & I were poor at that, local lads were better. American 1-0 Ireland.

Punt - they'd throw a ball back to us & we had to hoof it as far as we could. 3 times, one went back to the cousin, 20 stone, blocklayer, skewed off his foot & I could hear 'that's gone to the freeway' and it was hit by an artic. Suddenly the Cousin & myself were level pegging with the locals. America 1-1 Ireland ....

Shoot - Ball was thrown back in American football style, rep would catch it, place it & we had to put it over the lat. Cue the local lads getting to the ball and a series of toe peggers going along in daisy cutting fashion. It was like their legs don't work! This was from 14, 21 & 40 yards out. I got 3 out of 3, same with the cousin. America 1-2 Ireland ole ole ole!

We were like celebs in the pub, scantily clad female beer reps offering us tokens, posing for happy snaps and 'eye lavre yaw akksent' & they asked us to go to the state qualifier & then we broke the news 'naah going home tomorrow'.

Some level of skill in slotting a ball over the bar after 14 pints of shiner bock! Toughest Trade 2003, Limerick style.

Good story Slayer!
The reason our lads only get to training squads, combines etc is
1. The yanks do nothing unless there is personal gain in it for them, i.e. money.
2. They probably haven't even heard of Ireland half of the meatheads at combines, etc.
3. There are millions of people who want to enter things like NFL training camps, etc. They don't really care about our Paddy GAA player.

The guys who come over here get treated well to be fair, but again it is a novelty for any club etc to have them and having spoke to a fellow from Faythe Harriers recently, the show is totally embellished to hype up the foreigner!
