Dublin vs Monaghan

Replying To mayoboy1:  "Bad form from Jonny Cooper, it was almost as if he was trying to get the best player on the Monaghan team sent off..."
I had respect for him (Johnny Cooper) especially after the unlucky scrape he found himself in late at night in the city a few years ago and the comeback he made. Gone down in my estimation. McCaffrey got a soft hand on the face and rolled around too. It seems like a directive from management to milk any slight contact around the head. It seems to be another one of these win at all costs, mentality the Dubs are bringing for the 3 in a row. Don't talk to RTE after the Connolly incident etc.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Absolute bore feast. I have never heard Croke park so quite with so many present zero atmosphere zero excitement. Dublin just going through the motions. I was actually hopeful teams this year had closed the gap. But no dubs are even further ahead than they were. Worrying time for football, forget about the 3 in a row that's a cert I'd be more worried about 5/6 in a row without even breaking a sweat. Not Dublin fault, but by Jesus it's all getting very predictable."
I don't agree RD. I think Kerry and Tyrone are closing the gap. Tyrone looked impressive today.I know division 3 opposition bu their defence, attack and physique are catching up on the Dubs. They will be a test. Kerry won't be far away.

And if Mayo could be zapped out of their lethargy for one last kick who knows. The drew with the Dubs for the last 2 years so they're not far away at their best. Only one feels the best may have passed.

Dublin won on auto pilot today but I am really disappointed with Monaghan. They really he failed to evolve their game plan over the last few years and they are slowly regressing as a result. They work hard, are grave and have good footballers but the coaches really have to start working on a few wrinkles in their plan if they want to contend. But I think their peak is gone.

Also while analysing Dublin V Monaghan we must look at Monaghan's championship campaign 2017.

They lost to an average Down side, a pale shadow of previous Down sides bar Connaire Harrison, Caolan Mooney, Brendan McKernan and others, in Ulster. In the qualifiers they scored freely against Wexford, another team on the wane in recent years. To only be level with Carlow, division 4 after all (no disrespect made great strides this year) with 4 min of normal time to go is not on for a seasoned division 1 team. Down played well in the first half last weekend but wilted badly in the second half.

I felt Conor McManus had a particularly quiet championship by his high standards. Maybe it's just temporary or maybe his star is beginning to fade as he nears 30. Jack McCarron didn't repeat his league form. He has been disappointing. The number of times he got blocked down today was unforgiveable. At juvenile level we'd be ate without salt by managers if that happened repeatedly. It's also sad to see players like Dessie Mone not starting because of age profile. He's a huge loss. Also Drew Wylie is an outstanding traditional type full back but just lacks that little bit of mobility and pace for Croke Park. A wholehearted player, like most Monaghan men. That's why, overall, i don't think Dublin beat as strong a Monaghan as around 2013 Ulster Title holding Monaghan.

However there is a huge gap between Tyrone, Dublin, Kerry, Mayo (2011-16) form and the lower division one, top of division 2 teams. Roscommon (sorry for the early write off!), Kildare, Cavan, Galwayare significantly lower Down. Mayo of 2017 form may have slipped into this group now. I hope not.

Sometimes it's difficult to describe a BLT sandwich while only referring to the bread and lettuce. The Monaghan/Dublin game needs to be discussed in the context of the overall Championship. Kerry and Tyrone being the bacon and tomato if you like.

Now comments about KIldare being useless and Meath more useless are totally irrelevant agreed.

When you set up so defensively like Monaghan did then that's what you get, not much a contest.

Really straight forward for Dublin. Tyrone will be a different animal but you'd expect the Dubs to come through with a few to spare. Bernard Brogan was poor off the bench. Decisions were wrong at key times.

Monaghan , like Armagh earlier, were just out of their depth today. No big deal but made for disappointing games. Monaghan needed to find a huge game but it simply wasn't there. Winners done what they had to do today and now we have the intriguing SF clash that most of us predicted.

Poor game and Monaghan are not up to much.
If people think Monaghan set up defensively wait till you get Tyrone the next day. I can see them causing Dublin big problems as is usually the case and they are due a victory over them.Dublin to me do not look settled at the back and they will be in trouble against better opposition.
Tyrone v Kerry final for me.
That'll be some ding dong.

Due a victory? Weird mentality. If they're good enough they will get their victory.

A directive from management? How so?

Replying To Jack_Goff:  "Again ref gives a ridiculous free to dublin when monaghan get a rare attack. Cooper hits mcmanus late and takes a dive. Should have been play on for monaghan and a black card for Cooper. Instead free Dublin and yellow mcmanus.

5mins later Dean rock fairly challenged and ref straight away raises the hand for advantage and pulls it back for an easy free. Seriously this is a farce. It's shocking how Dublin have every aspect of the gaa wrapped around their finger."
Cheer up don't let them dubs upset you , maybe its getting to much for you , best if you don't watch the semi final
this hatred cant be good for you.

Im amazed there hasnt been more focus on Johnny Coppers antics today. If this Dublin team wants to be remembered as the greatest then they can't be tolerating that type of behaviour.

Good win, Monaghan surprised me with their lack of, well, everything!
They had me fooled, I was nervous before the game.

It was very obvious Cooper and McCaffrey (an honest player generally) were rolling around with minimal head contact.

It it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, sounds like a duck...it's generally a duck.

Marse take your head out of your username minus M.
