There are a few people who I sincerely hope do not get the job. I will give no names as people should have an idea of who I am talking about. The only two men from Derry who are fit and capable for the job are Anthony Tohill and Mickey Moran of course. Now, there are four men from outside of Derry who I would love to be see get the job, The four men are, Pete McGrath, Jamie Horan, Anthony Cunningham and Peter Cavanan. I would like to see Moran of Horan get the job, but I would be extremely happy if any of the men I listed got the job. oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 21/07/2017 14:10:15 2020566 Link 0 |
We all know Mickey isn't interested. I have no idea why you fancy Tohill, outstanding footballer, manager....hasn't even taken a senior club team, absolutely no experience, nothing for you to base your preference other than nostalgia. Mc Grath, not for me, if your looking more of the same, by all means, if your looking progress...no. Canavan perhaps, was part of the management team with Tyrone U21 team, a poor club record of any note, had Fermanagh playing brutal football, but would certainly galvanise the county so I could see the logic. Horan, definitely. Cunningham, like seriously. For me I would love ORouke, or Tony Mc Entee or Dom Corrigan. The only man inside Derry capable enough is D Cassidy. Mc Erlain is for the future when he has taken a senior team somewhere is get some experience working with working adults. I am undecided about Paul Mc Irvonhill. But we badly need an outside man. O Rouke and Porter please. MickeyMouse (Derry) - Posts: 174 - 22/07/2017 00:02:59 2020753 Link 0 |
Tohill managed the Ireland compromise rules team a few years back but aside from that doesnt seem to have much managerial experience so not sure about that - Canavan hasnt been great at management - and as previously mentioned was poor with Fermanagh in my opinion - Pete McGrath we need a young vibrant manager in tune with the modern game - I would love Malachy o Rourke but you have to say to yourself he has been with Monaghan 6 years now and even if he leaves at the end of this year he wont go straight back into management you would imagine he will take a year - 2 years out after he leaves them - MM has comitted to S/Neil for another year but after that i cant see him taking the Derry Team again - A. Cunningham would be great but looks like he is going to take West Meath Job - I have a feeling county board will show no ambition and bottle it and go for a handy appointment as opposed to a proper one

I think it will depend on whether Damien McErlane wants the job. It's clear he has something to offer, it depends whether he believes he has currently got players at his disposal to compete or he wants to wait until the players he has worked with have came through to senior football. I would prefer that this group continue to under 20's under Damien's watch to continue their development. unclederry (Derry) - Posts: 67 - 27/07/2017 12:30:54 2024405 Link 0 |
I have got a good feeling about O'Rourke stepping down form Monaghan and getting the job here. Yes, didn't do to good with Monaghan for the past two years but he would for sure bring something to Derry, He is still a top class manager regardless. Remember Derry have a different set of players different to Monaghan, if he does come I say a good few lads will return; like Sammy Bradley, Emmet Bradley, Niall Holly, Shane Heavron etc. etc. Also a good few Debutants. It would be great if we got him. oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 05/08/2017 22:53:15 2029516 Link 0 |

It looks like McErlain is the manager, we will know for certain tonight whether he is or not. But I think he has it. No problem at all, think he will be great, he will bring Derry back to the old ways of attacking football. He will bring in talented youth and good experience. I'm sure the boys who left Barton will come back for him. What do you all think of this? oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 31/08/2017 11:47:53 2041090 Link 1 |
As i previously posted i hoped he would get it eventually- but wish it had been a couple of years down the road - would question the timing of this as he should be completely focussed on the AIF on the 17th Sept - is this for definite or is purely speculation on the part of the Irish news? - i would be surprised this was leaked out to them - we have a mole it would seem - would love to have seen him take over the 21`s and then make the transition to the senior job - hopefully whatever happens it all works out for the greater good of Derry football
