Pete McGrath and Fermanagh

(Oldest Posts First)

Such a mess. Reinstated as manager then leaves because certain players felt they didn't want him.
I find this amazing. We all know Fermanagh have very little clubs etc. But what do the players expect? To be challenging for all Ireland. Pete brought them to all Ireland quarter final and played well against Dublin. Stayed in div 2. Punched above their weight big time. This year was disappointing however injuries and players leaving took there toll. Fermanagh players should be careful what they wish for.

On a wider topic is player power out of control?

You are posing some tasty questions there Fridge. It's strange that the players wouldn't want him considering what he achieved with them and they probably have one of the smallest pools of players to pick a county panel from.

We don't know what went on between him and the players but one thing is for sure McGrath will have plenty of offers if he wants to stay on as an inter county manager.

He would be perfect for Westmeath, might sort out how inconsistent they are and Newry to Mullingar isn't an arduous journey.

You hear rumours of what's going on in the camp and you can't imagine the relationship was going to work going forward.

From half time in the Galway game something has gone badly wrong in the camp. In previous years those boys were putting everything in but as soon as they went behind recently that was the head going down. Watching them week in week out on the pitch you knew something was not right. To me it was a case of the management having lost the dressing room, he got everything he could have from those boys. I felt it was time to go, the Armagh defeat felt like a natural time to walk away for Pete.

I would like to thank Pete though for everything he has done for Fermanagh football in recent years. He owes this county nothing and I wish him the best for the future. However having watched them in every game this year I do feel it was time for him to go. Will we be any better under a new manager? Probably not but I don't think it was going to improve either under McGrath.

I was surprised when the county board said he was coming back. I thought it was the right time to walk away.
However the county board should of asked the players instead of embarrassing Pete by giving him the nod then him having to walk away. Deserved better.
Dom Corrigan maybe? Won the Tyrone championship with Killyclouger this year and has experience.

this is 'Saffron Visions' chance to prove they have more about them than the previois mob who high handed Pete McGrath as a managerial candidate. Pete is just the man Antrim need to bring a bit of confidence and organisation to things as the current management has long past its sell by date. It might be slightly over ambitious for a county like ours but if your not in you cant win!

It is always a tough one if he has lost the dressing room. No doubt Pete did a great job but if he has lost the players it was going to be a difficult year ahead. You really have to ask the question about the Fermanagh county board's part in all this, why did they reappoint him if he didn't have the support of the players.

The new manager will find it difficult to to any better than Pete. Fermanagh have some very good footballers but such a small pool to pick from.
