Replying To carlowman:  "You are right Brolly - a complete mismatch! Carlow played Dublin nd apart from that have played teams around the same level - Wexford lost key players early in the game and were poorer this year than in the last 6 or 7 years. London and Leitrim are not teams that would scare you. Yet Carlow did have to perform well against their opponents and have played better this year to a pattern and stuck with it. It has brought results and Monaghan now loom large on the horizon for Saturday evening.
There is no doubting Monaghan's class and many have asked who will take up McManus? I think we in Carlow should attempt to keep the ball away from him!!!! Simple!!!!
This is the first serious test from Carlow. The pattern used to date has worked well and the team now has a lot of confidence which is most welcome and is a result of winning... hard to beat it!...
Any performance in intercounty level today especially from an under dog needs a total team performance. Brendan Murphy will be the focus of extra attention again. He needs to man up at this stage and not get dragged down ot a situation where he again gets into trouble. More pressure will be applied to all sectors but especially at half back where their ball skills and team work will be vital to launching attack when in possession.
We have been over reliant on Paul Broderick but he is bale for the pressure and is a class player. The question is whether pther players can match up and play to a higher level and keep playing till the end.
Cullen Park is a superb pitch and with a huge Carlow support expected and playing in July - for the first time in years- Carlow will not be a push over. MONAGHAN SHULD WIN BUT - YOU NEVER KNOW!!!"
Carlowman, not if my life depended on it would I concede that this is going to be a miss match before a ball is kicked, going into the Dublin match I never said we would win it, but I certainly never said it would be a miss match, there's 15 mortals playing 15 mortals full stop, the best Monaghan did was beat Wexford so too did Carlow beat Wexford along with London and Leitrim when the final whistle sounds we'll have another look at thIngs.

Hoping Monaghan can do the business today, enjoying the back door if we get a win. Great to see Gary back for his annual Monaghan bashing.

Are you of the opinion that I am anti-Monaghan? Because thats not true at all, I was probably more honest in recent years than some Monaghan posters would have liked. But I gave an honest opinion, and it was based on what I seen on the pitch and not because of any underlying dislike for Monaghan."
Good man Gary, your honest alright, remember when you predicted Donegal to beat us by 7 or 8 points as Leo mcloone was going to cut through us like an east wind. You were no where to be seen after that match for a month.

No harm in having an opinion or being honest but you seem to always be rooting for the team v Monaghan. Anyway we will not worry too much just hope you are wrong again today.

I hope we have a good game of football this evening in Cullen Park. Best wishes to both panels and managements. Carlow need a good performance for all the young people that will be there this evening. We need our county team to perform well and give of their best. That is all we can ask. If they do - and I think they will - then they can be the spur to entice many more young lads to get in there and play.
Monaghan are very hot favourites and should win if all the pundits are to be believed but you never know. Monaghan will not take Carlow lightly. they got 'caught' last year and are very experienced. Our team has gained a lot of confidence and if they can maintain theor composure when the chips are down - we might be there when it comes to shove.
I just hope that we keep all our players on the pitch and if all our forwards and half backs really attack when we have the ball - you never know! I just hope that we contest their kick outs - which has not always been part of the thinking from the management. Come on Carlow!!!!

I see a match scoring bet on paddy power..Broderick or McManus to score more. I assume Broderick is the Carlow free taker but McManus looks like a good shout here

I am astounded that Carlow are a Division 4 side. This is the second time this year I have seen them on tv and I am so imoressed. But for some wayward shooting they would be ahead at half time.

I just love Sean Murphy, a barnstorming player. Ok he lost the ball a couple of times but those runs are amazing. I wish Donegal had him.

Great commentary, we were just informed that one of the Carlow players sheered 50 sheep before the Dublin game and went on to play like a man possessed.

God knows what non-Irish people watching this are making of such comments. Wow a goal for Carlow.

Oh dear, why do we always seem to worry about what others think of us.

Far play to Carlow.Great effort by them and very good tactics by there management. It may not have been pretty but they were level with 5 minutes to just couldn't close the game out.

Great effort from Carlow, just ran out of steam in the final 10 minutes. Monaghan did well to dig out a result but are playing very poorly, I can't see them troubling the big teams unless they can rediscover their fantastic early season form.

If we're trying to sell the game why open it up to ridicule. Let's be a bit more professional.

Hard luck to Carlow the mothers county they have given their fans great summer hopefully there will be more to come. Monaghan were the better team but there were some lads struggling but others that shone brightly as they made it through in the end. Great scenes after the match with the Carlow players and fans on the pitch after.
