Will it be another easy win for monaghan or will there be a huge upset .... larrymullanjr (Monaghan) - Posts: 74 - 10/07/2017 10:06:34 2013749 Link 0 |
Yes no disrespect to Carlow they beat 2 Div 4 teams in the qualifiers in London and Leitrim. This should be a win for Monaghan by 5+ kupa (Monaghan) - Posts: 281 - 10/07/2017 10:19:48 2013771 Link 0 |
I'm actually hoping for a bigger winning margan. We need a strong performance and a decent 9 or 10 point win.

As a Monaghan fan I remember Offaly and Longford in recent years in the qualifiers. bigfrankt (Monaghan) - Posts: 123 - 10/07/2017 10:51:14 2013810 Link 0 |
Brendan Murphy will be back. Monaghan should win by 5+ but with Murphy back Carlow have a chance. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7290 - 10/07/2017 10:59:47 2013814 Link 0 |
As long as we don't get too complacent and go into the game giving Carlow their due respect, we shouldn't have a problem here in all honesty. And god knows we've been forewarned enough when it comes to underestimating teams! patk (Monaghan) - Posts: 936 - 10/07/2017 11:08:49 2013832 Link 0 |
Carlow have been exceptional this year, I heard Steven Poacher had been doing a lot of S&C work with them and they put in an exceptional performance against All Ireland Champions Dublin in the Leinster Championship. Brendan Murphy and Sean Murphy could arguably stake a place in any County panel around the Country. The problem here is that Monaghan are now up and running in the Qualifiers, they were caught cold last year by Longford. I can't see them taking Carlow lightly after they watch the game against Dublin, and so I would expect Monaghan to win this game. It won't be easy though, Turlough O'Brien has built a formidable and physical Carlow side who are more than capable of sticking it to Monaghan. Carlow are improving there is no doubt about that, but this is a Monaghan team a lot further down the road in terms of physical development and tactically and probably mentally, but for Carlow to improve we need games like this that test us and show us where we need to be at. Although I was disappointed we didn't gain promotion this year I still think its been a year of progress and a good performance Saturday will set us up well for next season. Normally at this time of the year we are observers its a great feeling to still have a championship game to look forward to mid July Barrowsider (Carlow) - Posts: 1571 - 10/07/2017 22:21:33 2014563 Link 0 |
Carlow no doubt improving and will definitely put it up to us but this is a Monaghan side fast approaching the moment of truth in terms of getting deeper into the championship than previously. Have not really arrived yet this Summer into championship mode which Down exposed big time and the suspicion is Malachy has them primed to peak for Croke Park this year. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1790 - 11/07/2017 08:24:03 2014678 Link 1 |

Carlow have been lucky with the draws so far - till Monaghan! Wexford were poor, lost their 2 midfielders in first half and Carlow played well in the second half to win. Against the Dubs - they contained them as well as they could and against London - lucky with the draw - getting another Div 4 county and we got over the line. Against Leitrim - another lowly county Carlow played well in the second half. Their confidence has naturally increased with winning and with winning the performances has improved. It is doubtful if a performance can be put together to beat Maonaghan. 2 things need to happen for a shock - Monaghan to play really badly and Carlow to take absolutely every chance - unlikely that Carlow will defeat Monaghan but there is a chance. Murphy to get sent off again- he has to play first! I don't think I would start him. I think his discipline record is not good and he might play better being brought in. He has a tendency to hold up the ball and not deliver it quickly to his forwards - so - he may not start! I hope its a dry night and that we have a good game. Overall- Carlow should really take the opportunity ti really have a go and take the game to Monaghan and try to beat them. That is how teams improve and that is why we go to games! Roll on Saturday evening! Cullen Park will be throbbing!!! carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1812 - 11/07/2017 18:17:10 2015130 Link 0 |
This should be a good match, its the only rd3 qualifier that does not feature a recent all-ireland semi finalist so both teams have much to play for. Carlow can give Monaghan plenty of problems- if they get it right then Monaghans reaction will be interesting. Midfield could be an advantage for Carlow. Still, i would expect Monaghan to have 4 or 5 to spare in the end. MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 490 - 11/07/2017 19:12:19 2015179 Link 0 |

Worst possible draw for us. Were hoping for Armagh as they are a division 3 side and struggling in general recently would have been beatable. Tipp while massively improved are still somebody we have recent memories of beating in Div 4 not so long ago. A serious side but still we'd have a chance. I have only seen Carlow play once this year in the championship and that was against London which is self-explanatory, impossible to get to see the Carlow/Dublin game on sky as the landlord didn't want to know. It appears that Carlow are given the same chance against Monaghan as they were against Dublin, so be it, but in saying that there's a first time for everything, I'm still not saying Carlow is going to do this, that, and the other, but, - up to two years ago Leitrim, London and Wexford would have accounted for Carlow full stop, even allowing for the fact that they were all div.4 teams, in the same way Dublin beat Carlow and Westmeath both div.4 teams to get to the leinster final and not a word about that, but as soon as Dublin accounted for Westmeath their odd's went to 1/12. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2904 - 11/07/2017 22:59:23 2015316 Link 0 |
