Tyrone - The real deal

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I was unsure whether this Tyrone team was as good as some were making out looking at them in earlier league games and the likes. But I have to say they really do look like real contenders for the All Ireland. Their defence is good but the pace and intent they move forward with is very impressive.

They teased this for a few years but today it looks like they are a genuine contender. Makes things very interesting going forward.

I still don't think so lads sorry.

Have to take their performance today and praise it cause it has been fantastic, But Donegal didn't half help them.

They wont win the all Ireland in my view, I still believe that.

I agree Donegal were far from what is expected of them, but by God Tyrone have upped the intensity in their play. Which of course is what is needed to be anywhere near you boys. It'll be a serious battle between Tyrone, Kerry and the Dubs. Throw Mayo and Galway in for a bitta spice.

Tyrone very impressive today, but they wont get an easier game all year. They were looking hugely impressive in Ulster last year too. I wont be convinced until this current crop win a big game in Croker. That said, I wouldn't put it past them claiming a big result this year

You better hope you're boys don't write off Tyrone like you have.

Yes it was a good performance but let's get real..........Derry were poor and offered little and I can't believe Donegal put in a worse performance than Derry. As the saying goes 'you can only beat what's in front of you' but to date Tyrone has not been tested. To that end, it's too early to say how good this Tyrone team is but they are certainly in the mix.

I'm still not entirely convinced. Yes it was a good performance but I just don't see it being much different to what we have produced in the past apart from the fact that the ball went over the bar for us today.

I have lost count of the amount of games where we have kicked wides in the high teens.

Let's be honest some of the scores today were immense. They won't always go over like that and especially not under more severe pressure that what we had today.

Plus we need to start converting goal chances. We might just get past monaghan bit I still don't see us beating a Kerry or Dublin in croke park.

I think some of the score-taking in that first half is the best you'll see all year let's be honest. When they pulled away from us just before half time, I'd say 3 or 4 of those points were from incredible angles and just wonderful scores - is that sustainable?

I'd also question their goal taking and the amount of chances they gave us too. Look I know the game was well won and you can understand a lack of focus maybe, but they can't keep passing up goal chances while giving them to us at the other end. We had 2 in the first half and I'd say a slicker team would've got in for 3 clear chances in the second.

While I appreciate as a Donegal fan that they weren't as ruthless going the other end as well, there's no love lost between these 2 teams so I was a bit surprised at how loose they were with the shooting towards the end. The way it was going I half-expected a Mayo 2013 type hammering to stick the boot in. Even their goal was scuffed. That needs to change.

But look the intensity alone they brought today was absolutely top drawer, they will give any team in Croke Park a serious rattle and it's just down to fine margins then on the day. The Dubs don't impress me as much this year so they have as good a chance as anyone.

They've always had very talented footballers but these fellas have been stifled by Mickey's overly defensive set up the past few years. Tyrone have always looked at their best when attacking in numbers very quickly; I think on their day they're the best in the country at it. Donegal were poor today but a very decent Monaghan squad will show where Tyrone really stand. Delighted to see them throw off the shackles at last and show their capability.

If Tyrone come out at us/down in the final, I'll be very worried.

Agree with others here that I wouldn't be completely sold on Tyrone being a huge threat for the All Ireland just yet. Yes they were very impressive today, but it has to be said that Donegal just completely dropped the heads midway through the first half and never lifted them again. Tyrone had their way with Donegal after that - and while they gave an exhibition of point scoring, in most cases there was little to no pressure put on those shots by the Donegal defence and talented players like the Tyrone lads will score all day given the time and space like that. I'm not sure this will happen again this year against a top team. They also coughed up a good few goal chances which I wouldn't associate with Tyrone.

There always seems to be this want for a Mickey Harte-led Tyrone side to return to their glory days and win another All Ireland, but this side isn't up to the standard of their AI winning sides yet anyway. Some of the media had been talking up Tyrone as the team to beat the Dubs with little evidence, so I'm sure that talk will go into overdrive now. They may yet develop into that team but I'm not fully sold yet. More than anything I'm delighted that they'll no doubt be tipped up across the board as big favourites to win the Ulster final whoever they meet. I'd love another crack at them, they're a very good side but far from unbeatable. We just have another obstacle to overcome this weekend before we can think about that though.

Really don't understand many of the posts - Tyrone beat Derry by double scores and people say it's only Derry let's see what they do against Donegal. Tyrone do the same against Donegal and again people are saying Donegal were below par - not sure what Tyrone have to do - I guess most Tyrone folks love this but I for one don't understand the analysis of some posters!

It was a win against Donegal, but not against thee Donegal.

Tyrone have a long way to go, as stated earlier in the thread - they probably won't have had an easier game all year.

I was in Clones today and I have absolutely no doubts about saying yes to the the initial post, Tyrone are the real deal. I would say the plan all along was to peak early in the league, guarantee survival then take the foot off the pedal in the second half of the league with an eye on the championship. I also could not understand the criticism after the win in Derry. To win by double scores in a notoriously difficult Celtic Park with 22 scores in total was some return. Today Tyrone showed that physically they are at a peak to compare with Dublin and Kerry. Also they mixed their play up by playing long balls inside complimenting their slick transitioning style. Yes Monaghan will provide a much sterner test as u can be guaranteed they will bring a defensive intensity lacking from Donegal today but unless Tyrone have a serious off day I see only one winner. Some of the scoring and support play today was out of the top drawer. Also Tyrone might have left a couple of goals behind them which was mainly down to fantastic shot stopping but showed this is an aspect they have addressed from last year. It will take a good team to beat them and they will not fear the Dubs one bit if the 2 collide in an AI semi final which I would fully expect.

I would say that if they keep their heads and concentrate on only their next game, then they are a serious team.
I cant see either Monaghan or Down being able to stop them from putting up a high score. Beyond Ulster, avoiding injuries, replays and possible suspensions, they will be a very large force.

Indeed maybe we are jumping the gun a bit so apologies. Down put in a very good performance against Armagh and a repeat would give them a chance. However scores won't come so easy against Monaghan and ye cannot afford to give Mcmanus and co the same goal chances u gave to Armagh as he knows how to take them.
