Don't have much to offer regarding insight. I think Ulster looks pretty open too but there might be others better placed than me. It is a very unusual year in that alot of players will be required for the inaugural U-17 championship. I don't think Donegal are as strong as they have been the last 2 or 3 years at minor this year. They do however have Peader Mogan in their ranks who was a top minor last year. Think Galway are strong again this year. That is not from my own knowledge but picked up from one of their lads on a thread on one of the forums. Only guess work and based on a few conversations Dublin minor team did not want to show there hand in Leinster , they played Mayo amongst others in challenge games There was also a feeling in the county that lads born in 2000 were hard done as too old next year as minor moves to u17, therefore they would only get one shot at the minor game, so to put them in the league was away of giving them invaluable experience prior to under 17 championship, Time will tell if it hindered actual minor team , also if it had desired affect for u17 Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 20/04/2017 12:44:21 1981108 Link 0 |

Galway looked phenomenal during the Connacht minor league. Stephen Joyce has them playing super football. They have Mulkerrins full back from last year, Evan Murphy at centre half forward from last year and Darragh Silke scoring for fun (missed last year due to injury). Not sure about Mayo they were missing the players from Ballinrobe school tied up the Colleges B competition. Don't know enough about the others in Connacht. Galway won the Connacht league using a lot of players as it should be. Mayo were missing several players when they played Galway so you never know what to expect. Roscommon were hammered by Galway but were apparently missing plenty of players too whilst Sligo are making a good bit of progress at this level. I do expect the winners of Galway/Mayo will go on to win Connacht but its a shame that one of them will be out of the championship by the end of April. Meath didn't win the leinster league. The final with Cork has not been played for some reason. Probably won't be at this stage either.

Yeah they also never beat the Dub 17's. beat Kildare, Carlow, Westmeath and Louth

That was my point, I didn't want to get into it. But if one team refuse to play its a walk ove, cork refused to play . So it will never be played. Meath won it , by been available to play. I already said this on Meath forum , not officially yet, bit I am sure the walk over will be given.

Leinster looks open enough this year although Meath by all accounts are favorites. Dublin Kildare and Laois will all be in the mix and Offaly had a decent win last week. The big game this weekend is Meath Dublin obviously, that will tell us where they are. Laois play Louth, Laois being going well enough bet Galway, Armagh, Wicklow recently so have abit of form but that defeat to Cork was worrying. I was wondering about Evan Murphy, very good player cannot believe he is minor again this year given he was a big guy physically last year. I thought he would have been with the U-21 set up hence I was wondering where he was. There were rumours last year he could be lost to soccer was that true? Anyways some player to have eligible this year again. As for post regarding Donegal winning the minor this year I really could not say but honestly do not think Donegal are as strong this year but hey happy to be proved wrong. Panamasam, I also heard about young Murphy and possible soccer with a college in the states. We would hope he stays and does a Michael Murphy on it like when he turned down the Aussies. Evan has huge potential. Galway also have another from Salthill/Knock, Eoin McFadden from last year, played corner back then but I have seen him at six and in the corner this year during the minor league.

Could be worth a few quid so to win it? Esp given Kerry are going to be very short like their U-21's. I think the lure of football would be much more given the money involved. But yeah he is a good player. If this years Mayo minors are anything like last years I would strongly fancy Galway that is for sure but like I said my knowledge on any of any of the teams is limited enough but I will try get to a few games for a bit of insight. Peader Mogan underage again for Donegal. He is a quality player and a future senior star but like I said no idea what the supporting cast is like this year.
