Longford manager Karl Dermody is pleased that his side have avoided the back door route in the Leinster MFC.

A comfortable win over Wicklow sees the Midlanders go directly into the provincial quarterfinals.

And Dermody told the Longford Leader that has been their aim all year.

"To go the direct route is the most important thing and that's what we set out to do," stressed Dermody.

"For the last couple of months everything was focused on this game and getting the performance right. Going straight into the quarterfinals gives us some more time to work with the lads and we will see where that will take us."
