Slaughtneil full-back Brendan Rogers has hailed team manager Mickey Moran an icon after last Sunday's Ulster club SFC success.

The Robert Emmets men have won two provincial titles since Moran took the reins in 2014, leading them to an All-Ireland final appearance in his first season in charge, and Rogers has hailed the Watty Graham's clubman's impact as "phenomenal".

"Mickey didn't change anything when he came in," Rogers is quoted saying in today's Irish News.

"He just wanted to bring the best out of us. That's what's different. He believes in us and he's smart and calm. The fact that he doesn't deal with media shows that he doesn't like a fuss and shows what a gentleman he is.

"For him, it's all about the players. I take my hat off to him. He's a phenomenal man. Words sometimes would spoil just what an icon he is around our club, in Derry and in Ireland."
