Donegal's Martin McElhinney says he and his team mates haven't read into the recent criticism from former manager Jim McGuinness.

In a recent Irish Times column, McGuinness illustrated that he felt he the team was underperforming lately and questioned the tactics of successor and current manager Rory Gallagher over their transition out of defence.

McElhinney, who won an All-Ireland under the Naomh Conaill clubman in 2012, defended Gallagher as "one of the best I have ever worked with" and said that the recent comments aren't something the group has been dwelling on.

"I didn't really hear too much about Jim McGuinness' comments; I saw a few of the news headlines," he told RTÉ Sport.

"That stuff doesn't affect us. Jim was involved with Donegal for a few years and was a successful manager and he's entitled to his opinions, but we don't really take too much heed into them."

Speaking on tomorrow's qualifier showdown with Cork, the midfielder added: "Cork are a big strong team. We've got to know them very well over the last couple of years.

"We know what they are like, we know they are no bad team. And they will be firing on all cylinders to meet us."
