There is believed to be five names in the hat for the vacant Laois football manager's job.

It was hoped that a new manager would be in place before the Laois SFC quarterfinals, but that looks unlikely now as two of the candidates have yet to confirm their interest in the role vacated by Tomas O'Flatharta.

Both these are believed to be from outside the county while the remaining three are Laois natives.

The interview process is being carried out by Mick Lillis, Joe Higgins and Leo Turley along with committee chairman Mick Dempsey and they have already interviewed two of the candidates, according to the Leinster Express.

The Laois SFC quarterfinals are due to take place on the weekend of September 18th-19th and it looks unlikely a decision will be made before then.

Meanwhile, under-21 football manager Derek Conroy is set to remain at the helm for another season, but there has been no movement on the next Laois minor manager yet.
