There are fears that former Down captain Ambrose Rogers has suffered a second cruciate ligament injury that could spell the end of his playing career according to a report in the Irish News.

The injury, which Rogers sustained while playing for his club Longstone, is the latest in a long list the midfielder has suffered down the years. He missed out on captaining the Mourne County in their 2010 All-Ireland final defeat to Cork after rupturing his cruciate ligament a week before the quarter-final win over Kerry.

Rogers also had to have his spleen removed in 2008 after shipping a heavy blow in an All-Ireland qualifier against Wexford.

It remains to be seen if Rogers - whose father, also Ambrose, won an All-Ireland medal in 1991 - will bounce back from this latest injury setback.
