Pete McGrath turned down the chance to manage the Dublin senior football team back in 2004.

Currently in charge of Fermanagh who take on Antrim in the Ulster SFC this Sunday, the two-time All-Ireland winning Down boss revealed he he was sounded out by Dublin chief executive John Costello following the departure of Tommy Lyons.

At the time, however, the prospect of becoming the capital's first 'outside' football manager didn't appeal to him because of the travel commitments it would have entailed.

"After my first year of International Rules management (in 2004), there was a tentative approach made by John Costello from Dublin," McGrath told The Irish Independent.

"That's when I was still teaching, and the prospect of driving up and down to Dublin . . .

"I would say it was a tentative approach but I said 'no'."
