Evan Regan is set to make an earlier-than-expected return to the Mayo jersey.

The 21-year-old sustained a damaged collarbone just five minutes into Mayo's opening league clash with Kerry on February 6th and initial fears were that he would miss the entire national football league.

However, the IT Sligo student is pushing for a March return. "It could have been an awful lot worse," the Ballina Stephenites clubman told The Mayo News. "The bone didn't actually break all the way through, it was only fractured, so I'm hoping to be back on the field next month.

"We're just waiting on the bone to heal at the moment. There's been a three-week break now for the league so I didn't miss any games.

"We play Cork on March 29th. Donegal on April 5th and then the national league semi-finals and finals so there's still plenty of football to be played.

"I've been working away on the spinning bike to maintain my fitness and I'll be back running and kicking again in a few weeks. After that, I can get back into contact."
