Kildare captain Eamon Callaghan feels that there were plenty of positives to take from the O'Byrne Cup.

The Lilywhites lost out to Dublin in the decider after extra-time last Sunday, but both sides produced outstanding displays on the day.

And with Kildare entertaining Down at St Conleth's Park on Sunday in the opening round of the Division Two campaign, Callaghan believes they are going into the game in a confident mood.

"We showed after a poor start that we could compete with Dublin," Callaghan told the Leinster Leader. "We got it together at the end of the opening half and then showed what we could do in the second half when we were more than a match for Dublin.

"Disappointed with the result when we were only one kick away from winning but now we have two really tough games at home to Down on Sunday and then six days later away to Meath on Saturday, two tough games but that is the way the league is going to be, there are no easy games in Division 2 and that's for sure, but we have had a very good preparation and training has been going well."
