Galway's hopes of securing promotion from Division 2 of the Football League have suffered another set-back with the news that Paul Conroy will be sidelined for the early part of the year as he recovers from a knee operation.

The Examiner reports that the former captain will miss both the FBD League and the early rounds of the Allianz League having underwent surgery yesterday to repair meniscus damage to the cartilage in his left knee.

The injury occurred at training and is an additional headache for new manager Kevin Walsh who already has to plan without the service of Corofin players Micheal Lundy, Gary Sice, Michael Farragher and Ian Burke and retired duo Sean Armstrong and James Kavanagh.
