Cillian Sheridan will line for Apoel Nicosia against Barcelona tonight

Cillian Sheridan inspired Cavan to the Gerry Reilly Tournament in 2005; tonight he faces Barcelona in the Champions League.

The 25-year-old from Bailieborough, who has the distinction of being the only Irish representative in this year's Champions League, has become a cult hero with Cypriot club APOEL of Nicosia since joining them just over twelve months ago.

Tonight, in arguably the biggest soccer match ever to be staged in Cyprus, APOEL host mighty Barca in Group F, and centre forward Sheridan could attain legendary status on the Mediterranean island if he manages to find the net against Luis Enrique's men.

Sheridan was regarded as one of the hottest GAA prospects in Ulster when he delivered a Man of the Match display against Meath in the '05 Gerry Reilly Tournament decider but has instead gone on to forge a succesful career for himself as a professional footballer, lining out for Celtic, Motherwell, Plymouth, St Johnstone, Kilmarnock and CSKA Sofia before settling down in Nicosia.
