Rising Monaghan football star Jack McCarron is expected to miss most of next season after rupturing his cruciate ligament.

The young attacker made a big impression for Malachy O'Rourke's side this year when they won Division 2 of the Allianz League and contested their second successive Ulster final and All-Ireland quarter-final, but is now facing a long spell on the sidelines after falling victim to the cruciate curse in a recent league game for his club Currin.

"Jack McCarron got injured in the game against Castleblayney with a cruciate ligament injury," Currin manager Declan McKiernan explained to Gaelic Life.

"It was a bad injury and he could be out for eight or nine months with it."
