Kevin Walsh is poised to become Galway's new football manager after the only other candidate nominated for the post, Pete Warren, withdrew from the race.

Warren, who served as a selector under John O'Mahony when the Tribesmen won All-Ireland titles in 1998 and 2001, has opted out before the interview process was due to take place. While the management selection committee has the option of seeking out other candidates, it's almost certain that former two-time All-Ireland winning midfielder and Sligo manager's name will be put forward for ratification at the next county board meeting on Monday week, September 29.

The Galway senior hurling manager for 2015 will also be proposed for ratification at the same meeting with speculation rife that Anthony Daly is in the running after stepping down as Dublin boss a few weeks ago.
