Marty Clarke is set to return to the Down colours next year after bringing the curtain down on his Aussie Rules career.

The An Riocht clubman, who joined Collingwood in 2007 before taking time out from his AFL career to star in Down's run to the 2010 All-Ireland final, has struggled to hold down a regular starting place with  the Magpies in the last two seasons.

His return would provide the Mournemen - who are currently seeking a new manager following James McCartan's departure - with a massive boost in 2015.

"The game always moves on and Martin found it was a lot quicker when he came back from Ireland," Collingwood CEO Gary Pert is quoted in the Irish News.

"He's leaving Collingwood and he's not going to another AFL club."
