Eoin Brosnan agrees with Eamonn Fitzmaurice's decision to leave Kieran Donaghy on the bench for tomorrow's Kerry-Mayo replay.
The former Footballer of the Year made a match-saving contribution when introduced late on in last weekend's epic drawn match at Croke Park but will again have to be satisfied with a substitute's role for the All-Ireland semi-final replay in Limerick on Saturday.
Former Kingdom centre back and captain Brosnan can see why his one-time intercounty team-mate Fitzmaurice resisted the temptation to bring 'Star' in from the start:
"He had a huge impact the last day but in reality the whole basis of how this team plays is without Kieran at No 14," the Dr Crokes ace observes in The Irish Examiner.
"It would be asking too much of the team to change the dynamic of the way they play in just six days.
"I think Kerry will focus on what didn't go well for them and I'd be quietly confident enough that they will prevent Mayo dominating in midfield where they did in the second half last Sunday. Kerry will have concentrated on ensuring Mayo don't get as prolonged a grip on the game as they did."
