Down manager James McCartan has left the door open for Kalum King to return to the squad.

The Mourne County are busy preparing for the Ulster SFC and a clash against Tyrone in less than six weeks time. However, they suffered a setback when King was forced to withdraw from the squad due to work commitments.

But, McCartan stressed to the Mourne Observer that if King's circumstances were to change then he would be welcomed back into the squad.

"He's been a huge player for us since I've been here," said McCartan. "He's a big asset and a big character in the dressingroom and we're sorry to lose him at the minute.

"We're hoping that his circumstances may change over the next few weeks, but work takes precedence, you have to earn a living."
