Fermanagh GAA celebrates 100 Years
July 05, 2005
Friday 1st July marked a unique occasion in the Clinton Centre, Enniskillen, when Fermanagh Gaels from throughout Ireland came to witness the launch of a comprehensive historical study of 100 years of the Coiste Chondae Fhear Manach Cumann Lúthchleas Gael.
The authors Tom and Niall Cullen from Belleek spent most of the last year visiting and working with the clubs in the Erne County culminating in Friday's launch of "A Gaelic Graduation" a history of the GAA in Fermanagh.
The book was launched by Cathaoirleach Comhairle Uladh, Michael Greenan, who paid tribute to the generations of Fermanagh Gaels who kept the games alive through good times and bad and in particular he paid tribute to the senior team of 2004 who were but a kick of a ball away from an All-Ireland final.
Another great Gael who was a guest on the night and a friend of Fermanagh was former President Jack Boothman from Wicklow. The book launch began a weekend of celebrations bringing to a close the centenary celebrations in the county which also had a 2 day exhibition of memorabilia on display in the Clinton Centre in Enniskillen and the official opening of the new county training facility at Lissan outside Enniskillen on Sunday afternoon.
The book will be available from all bookshops and newsagents throughout Fermanagh from this week.
