Shane Mulholland Inaugural Under Age Hurling Tournament-2016

Under 16 Games, Under 12 and Under 10 Games

The Inaugural Shane Mulholland Under Age Hurling Tournament for 2016, and hosted by Lisbellaw St Patrick's, at their club ground St Patrick's Park, Cavanacarragh, Lisbellaw. Got under way on last Saturday afternoon 20th August, 2016. An enthusiastic bunch of dedicated supporters came with each team.

Match "1"

Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 5 gls. 12 pts; Cootehill, 3 gls. 4 pts.

The Shane Mulholland Inaugural under Age Hurling Tournament for 2016 got off to a dynamic, when they game's hosts Lisbellaw's under 16 team took on visitors East Cavan Gael's in the opening game of this one-day tournament. It was they St Patrick's sides pocket rocket's Tom Keenan, who blasted home his team's first goal from play. Moments it was the same player, who popped over Lisbellaw's first point, also from play. The obviously dominant St Patrick's side now increased their scoring rate, firstly with a second point from play Cailen Duffy, then moments later Nathan Timoney banged home his sides second goal from play. Lisbellaw continued dominant the game's scoring obvious game coming to a close they visiting Cootehill side, finally opened their scoring account with a morale boosting goal. However, St Patrick's side' dominance e's in form Nathan Timoney blasted home his second and his sides third goal from play. They latter's teammate Caolian Duffy now copper fastened his side's obvious scoring dominance, when fired home his side's fourth goal from play. However, the last score of the game's opening half was credit by the modest scoring Cootehill, with their first point from a free.

Second half

Unsurprisingly it the host side Lisbellaw, who seamlessly continued their scoring blitz, with the diminutive Tom Keenan bursting through for his side's fifth goal from play. Keenan's teammates clipped over another three points. However, the far from vanquished Cootehill side stormed back into the game, when the east Cavan side hammered home their second goal of the game. Though game's time was almost up, it was the revitalised Cootehill, who with moments to the games end registered their side's third goal from play. However, their opponents and hosts Lisbellaw had too much ability, and went onto ease past the north Cavan side.

In this uninterrupted under age hurling tournament they match "1" winners Lisbellaw stayed on the St Patrick's Park, where this time they played against Castleblaney. It was Lisbellaw's pocket rocket Tom Keenan who got this game off to a scoring start, with two minor scores from play. The Monaghan side replied quickly with a single point from a free. However, Lisbellaw replied with seven points and three goals before half. They match "1" winners Lisbellaw stayed on the St Patrick's Park, where this time they played against Castleblaney replied, with a modest second point from play.

Second half

It was St Patrick's side's Ben Corrigan, who rebegun the game's second with his side's eighth and ninth points from play. They latter's team Cailon Duffy joined in the scoring blitz, with a fourth goal from play. Then the Lisbellaw scoring duo of Ben Corrigan and Tom Keenan returned to the scoring plate, with their side's fifth and sixth unanswered goals from play. Lisbellaw for the second time ended this game on a high.

Castleblaney Faugh's, 4 gl. 2 pts; Cootehill, 2 gls. 2 pts.

This was a more competitive under 16 game where the eventual winners Castleblaney of Monaghan defeated Cootehil of Cavan after a skilful match from the representative of neighbouring counties in south Ulster.

Under 10 and under 12 Matches

Lisbellaw St Patrick's, v Bellanaleck Art McMurrough's.

Hosts Lisbellaw played Bellanaleck of mid Fermanagh in a series of two friendlies during the afternoon. Both games after a competitive thirty minutes which saw boys and girls from both play enthuastically, both matches ended in a draw.

First half

Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 5 gls. 12 pts; Castleblaney Faugh's, 0 gl. 2 pts.

In a not quite copy of the earlier round 2 match St Patrick's hosts unsurprisingly defeated Monaghan visitors Castleblaney Faugh's rather easily. At the game's beginning they Lisbellaw hosts concentrated their scoring skills in clipping over a series of 5 points from, Luca McCusker (2pts.), Peter Rafferty (2 pts.), Ciaran Duffy (1 pt.). Then as the game's opening half was ending they St Patrick's lads upped their scoring skills and blasted home two well taken goals from Peter Rafferty and Nathan Timoney. However with some minutes left to half time they Lisbellaw lads now reverted back to minor scoring, with four points from Ciaran Duffy (2 pts.) and Tom Keenan (2 pts.).

Second half

Seamlessly Lisbellaw began the game's final half in the almost the same scoring skilful as they commenced the opening half. With firstly goals (2 gls.) from Ciaran Duffy, followed up by other goals from Nathan Timoney (2 gls.). Against the run of play, visitors Castleblaney darted up with slithor in tow, and then getting near their opponents square, popped the ball over the crossbar for their first score of the match. Moments later the Monaghan lads added a second point, and also from play. Unlike their visitors in the finals dying moments Lisbellaw added three further points and final goal, to deliver the inaugural of Shane Mulholland Under 16 Hurling Final of 2016, to them.

Presentations

In an l community based association, which they GAA fiercely is, pride in the parish is nearly all. But highly respected individual, whether recently deceased such as Shane Mulholland. Or the former joint treasurer of Lisbellaw St Patrick's Frank Keenan. Are highly respected by players, managers and supporters.

Presentation "1" and "2"

In his opening remarks before presentening the Shane Mulholland Inaugural Under Age Hurling Tournament-2016, Benny McManus chairman of Lisbellaw St Patrick's Hurling Club complementing both Lisbellaw and Castleblaney Faugh's for their entertaining game just witnessed. He then presented the winning captain Ciaran Duffy from Lisbellaw, with the Shane Mulholland Inaugural Under Age Hurling Tournament Trophy for 2016. Ciaran in a victory speech praise his defeated opponents for an entertaining game. Finally he called on his teammates to give three rousing cheers for Castleblaney. In the second of the three presentations the man-of-the match award was presented to Lisbellaw's Tom Keenan.

 

Presentation "3"

In the third but most poignant presentation Vanessa Mulholland widow of Shane presented a substantial cheque on behalf of the Shane Mulholland Foundation to the chairman of Lisbellaw St Patrick's Hurling Club, Benny McManus, who reply profusely thanked Vanessa.
