Goan laments over defeat

November 06, 2015

Irvinestown player-manager Shane Goan admits they were bitterly disappointed to lose their Ulster club IFC quarterfinal.

Down champions Glenavy secured a one-point win over their Fermanagh opponents in a week that their manager Francie Doone tragically passed away.

No one could deny the Down side the victory, although Goan admitted to the Fermanagh Herald that the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow.

"It was an end to end game of football," said Goan. "We're bitterly disappointed. That game could have gone any way.

"At the end of the day a draw would probably have been a fair result, but that's football for you, it just wasn't to be."
