HS hurling team of the week

May 11, 2015

Our best hurling XV from the weekend.

Following their 17-point winning heroics against Antrim, three Westmeath players make our hurling team of the week ...

1. James Barrett (London)

London got the better of Kildare at the second attempt in Newbridge on Saturday and Barrett will have been pleased to have kept a clean sheet.

2. Shane Power (Westmeath)

Power and his defensive colleagues restricted Antrim to just four points from play during the course of the 70 minutes in Cusack Park, Mullingar.

3. Cahir Healy (Laois)

The Laois full-back was one of the few players that rose above the mediocrity that was on show in Netwatch Cullen Park.

4. Alan Corcoran (Carlow)

Despite a second defeat, Corcoran and the Barrowsiders have an outside chance of making the quarter-finals proper if they overcome Antrim next weekend.

5. Kieran McKernan (Armagh)

McKernan was to the fore as Armagh booked their place in the Nicky Rackard Cup semi-finals courtesy of their six-point win over Tyrone.

6. Darren Dineen (Kerry)

The Kingdom are through to the last four of the Christy Ring Cup after they continued their winning ways with a hard-earned 1-21 to 2-18 success over Meath in Tralee.

7. Barry Duffy (Fermanagh)

The left half-back's goal secured a second win from as many Lory Meagher Cup outings for the Ernesiders against Lancashire.

8. Zane Keenan (Laois)

The midfielder found the target with nine pointed frees, plus one from play, as the O'Moore County kept their hopes of qualification alive.

9. Cormac Boyle (Westmeath)

Boyle and his midfield partner Eoin Price laid the foundations for Westmeath's surprisingly comfortable victory over Antrim.

10. Robbie Greville (Westmeath)

On what was a memorable weekend for Westmeath hurling, the half-forward raised four white flags in an enterprising display against the Saffrons.

11. Jack Regan (Meath)

The Royals made the long trip to Tralee and gave as good as they got against Eamonn Kelly's hosts with Regan responsible for 1-11 of their 2-18 total.

12. Martin Duggan (London)

The 2011 Clare All-Ireland intermediate winner put Christy Ring Cup holders Kildare to the sword with a personal contribution of 3-3.

13. Ben Conroy (Laois)

Half-time substitute Conroy made a telling contribution shooting six points as Laois secured the bragging rights.

14. Ciaran Matthewson (Donegal)

It was all too easy for Donegal against Longford at Pearse Park on Saturday and Matthewson helped himself to 1-16 (1-7 from play).

15. Shane Nolan (Kerry)

The Kingdom attacker put his name to 12 points as Kerry survived a scare against Meath on home soil.
