Middleton Ease Over Lisbellaw Hosts
With the exception this game's opening minutes, when Lisbellaw left full forward Sean Corrigan clipped over a well taken free, it was their visitors Middleton side who dominated this match's scoring and play to its final end. In this matches opening quarter it was again the Na Fianna side who dominated the scoring, with seven points from firstly Brian Gaffney (4 pts.),all from frees Ciaran McKeever (1 pt.), David Carville (1 pt.)and Martin Corry (1 pt.) from further frees and play. Lisbellaw hosts modestly replied with additional three points from J.P. Mc Garry (1 pt.) from play and 2 points from frees by John Duffy. With this matches second quarter now entered and this games' score sheet now registering 4 points for hosts St Patrick's to a telling 7 points for visitors Middleton, it was time the Lisbellaw lads now started to demonstrate their scoring abilities. Though repeatedly laying siege to the Na Fianna defences, and almost pulling off a spectacular goal attempt from a drive by their left full forward Sean Corrigan, the Lisbellaw lads with moments to the half time break, finally broke through the Middleton, when their centre half forward, Tommy Cleary seized on an incoming slithor, and then evading his many markers to bang home his and his sides only goal of this game. That ominously was St Patrick's only score of the second quarter. In mark contrast their Armagh visitors concentrated on registering an additional four points all from ace free taker Brian Gaffney, who rather handily punished Lisbellaw's clumsily tackling. With the interval whistle now blown, it was a decisively more buoyant Middleton side that trooped off to the sidelines of St Patrick's Park to have their half time break and pow-wow. Lisbellaw had more serious talking to get back into the game.
Half time scores
Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 1 gl 4 pts.; Middleton Na Fianna, 0 gl. 13 pts.
Second half
Lisbellaw Fight Back
In sharp contrast to this games' opening half it was this games' host side St Patrick's, that went point scoring, when they had minor scores in the matches third quarter from firstly Sean Corrigan (2 pts.), Danny Teague (1 pt.) including a spectacular eighty metres score from well inside his own half. Finally Lisbellaw's own ace scorer John Duffy weighed in with his sides' eight point from a free. However their Na Fianna opponents were in no mood to cave in, and now matched their host's four points, with a similar minor score of four points from firstly Brian Gaffney (3 pts.) and Middleton's seventeenth point from Martin Corry. With this game now decisively into its fourth and finally quarter, the Lisbellaw lads now went all out to firstly reduced the same unbridgeable scoring difference and then hopefully win the game on their home pitch. As the old sporting adage states, goals win games. The St Patrick's attack lead by their left full forward Sean Corrigan repeatedly attacked their opponent's goal for the elusive major score. Whilst the latter forward was in top form, so was the Na Fianna goal keeper, who now pulled off the second spectacular save from the same attacker, in this increasing competitive game. Moments to the final whistle and the matches' score sheets now registering Lisbellaw with 1 goal 8 points to 17 points for Middleton. Lisbellaw were now throwing everything bar the kitchen sink at their south Armagh visitors, and did register a further useful six points from John Duffy (2 pts.), Sean Corrigan (2pts.), J.P. McGarry and Danny Teague a point apiece. However the more consistent Middleton side finished off the game with their last three points from their brilliant in form ace free taker Brian Gaffney.
