Cathair Shannon gave an honest appraisal of the game after Derrylin lost to Inniskeen in Omagh on Sunday.
The Monaghan champions were too good for the O'Connells in their Ulster intermediate club championship semi-final and Shannon, who bagged 1-1, was making no excuses:
"I think on the day we just didn't deserve to win and it's as simple as that," the corner forward told The Fermanagh Herald.
"Things go for you when you work hard and your luck is in but I don't think we worked hard enough. I think they worked harder than us and they got over the line because of that.
"Well learn from it hopefully and move on. We have a lot of young boys in that team and we've come from second-bottom in Division Two last year to competing in an Ulster semi-final, so we need to learn from this and move on and compete in the senior championship."
