"Maybe it was just a bit of madness in me"

Fermanagh's Barry Owens
Barry Owens is back with Fermanagh for a 14th season and reckons madness could be the reason why!

The veteran 2004 All Star will be on the bench on Sunday for the Ernemen's Division Three meeting with Wexford in Enniskillen.

"I did consider stepping down, especially with the kids coming along," the Teemore Shamrocks clubman told The Irish News. "I thought about it.

"I was waiting on the kids getting into a routine and thankfully they have now. Both my wife and me have got great support from our families.

"Peter [McGrath, manager] left it with me as he knew I couldn't commit for the first part of the season with the birth of the twins. He said: 'leave it until February, March time'.

"I don't know, maybe it was just a bit of madness in me! I felt I was still able to do it and I was training as much with the club as I would be with the county so I said I'd give it a go.

"I'm not looking too far into the future. I'm 32 now, it's a young man's game. There are not too many 30-year-olds playing county football now."
