ULSTER UNDER 21HURLING SHIELD
FINAL - 2009
24 June 2009
Played at Breffini Park, Cavan
Fermanagh, 1 gl. 9 pts
Monaghan, 2 gls. 10 pts
A gutsy second half performance by a Fermanagh under 21 hurling, turned a half deficit of 6 points for the Ernesiders to 2 goals 7 points for this competition's eventually winners into a closing half titanic struggle, which saw the Fermanagh lads reduced the difference to three points. Merely one stroke of the slithor to bring them to draw with their fierce Farney rivals. However due combination of wides and fluffing their pucks in front of their opponents goal and finally the Monaghan side had just enough score wise in the games opening half to win the Ulster under 21 Hurling Shield of 2009.
The game-first half.
Monaghan score early and often.
Like the good Fermanagh voter at elections, this industrious Monaghan side score early and often. By the end of this games first quarter the Farney lads had registered 2 goals and 4 points to their Fermanagh opponents modest 6 points. Whose scores came from their left half forward Sean Corrigan, who was credited with four out of the total. Shea Curran and his team and club mate Francie McBrien claimed the other two points. Scores for Monaghan came from primarily from their very inform left half forward Jason O'Rourke who pucked over all seven points. The other minor score came from. The majors came from their mid-fielder Connor McKenna and the latter's team mate and full forward Gerry Brady.

Fermanagh Awaken With Vengeance.
A total transformed Fermanagh side took to the Breffini Park, and then proceeded to whittle down their Monaghan opponents seemly massive lead. The Ernesiders started off slowly but sure footley, notching up points from frees and play every few minutes. Suddenly and menacingly for the once arrogantly Monaghan side the Fermanagh attack went poaching for goals. But due to a variety of factors from wilfully pucking the slithor wide or fluffing their "shots" in front of their opponents. By the end of this games third and matches scores being registered as 9 points for Fermanagh to 2 goals 8 points for Monaghan. The Ernesiders only sorcerer was their left half forward Sean Corrigan, who completed his evening scoring tally with a further 2 points. Monaghan had scores from Jason O'Rourke (2 points).
Last and No Quarter
The games last quarter now entered this match took on intensity for both teams, particularly for the formerly under-the-cosh Fermanagh side, who then proceeded to prise this game from grip it had previously been held by the feisty lads from Farney. The Ernesiders major and successful attack of the game resulted in a goal by Francie McBrien who blasted the slithor home on the twenty fifth minute narrow sides score difference 1 goal 9 points to 2 goals 9 points. A mere puck of the slithor. Monaghan replied with a flurry of points to keep their opponents affectively at scoring bay. Nevertheless Fermanagh with renewed urgency battled on the final whistle, but they did added any necessary scores to win a match which they and their gung ho supporters were convinced they could win. The games eventually though adding a modest three points went on to win the Ulster Under 21 hurling Shield of 2009.
