Cavan and Fermanagh to renew rivalries

June 19, 2009
This Sunday sees the familiar meeting of Cavan and Fermanagh take place at Kingspan Breffni Park in the first round of the Ladies All-Ireland Intermediate Football Championship. Both sides have frequently clashed in recent years in the league and Ulster championship, but this is their first meeting with one another in the All-Ireland series in some time, and Fermanagh boss Paula Cunningham believes that the Breffni women will be fancied given their better form in the National League this season "Cavan would be viewed as favourites after their displays in the league but we are quite confident of causing an upset on Sunday," said the Ernesiders' manager. "Games between the two sides have always been quite close affairs and we have every belief in our panel; they are a very motivated bunch of players." The last time these two sides met was in this year's National League, where it took a late point from Cavan's Bronagh Sheridan to settle the issue, and you can expect it to be just as close this time around, particularly with the two sides meeting again in the Ulster IFC decider at the start of July.
