Lisbellaw Double Their Points

October 01, 2008
With a further morale boosting home victory, with a winning margin of 10 points, over their visitors Ardoyne, the Lisbellaw hurlers have now gained the maximum of four points from two games. They St Patricks lads now go forward with great confidence to their round three fixture in the Ulster Minor Hurling League of 2008.  Two hurlers stood out in this encounter firstly Sean Corrigan who banged home a brace of goals from play, mid way through this games opening half.  His team mate and full forward John Duffy was also very much on top of his game when he blasted home a goal and a stickful of points. Though the St Patricks defence did concede two preventiful goals in the games closing half, they might half been guilty of earlier defence errors only for two magnificent saves by Lisbellaw goalie Eoin Markey and his solidly playing fellow defenders.  The Game- the first half. Lisbellaw minor hurlers continued on their winning way when in a high scoring encounter with their North Belfast visitors they came away with a second brace of points.  As soon as this game had begun Lisbellaws full forward John Duffy fired over two well taken points one from play.  Almost immediately the north Belfast defender Eoin McVicker replied with a brace of points to create this games first draw of two points each. A short time later they latter scorer exchanged single points with St Patricks right half forward  Sean Corrigan who iniatley and modestly announced his presence with a minor score. That solitary point by Lisbellawís right was quickly and devastatingly followed by the diminutive attacker when he banged home in quick succession the first of his two goals both from play.  That last major success now showed the score sheet displaying 2 goals 3 points to a mere 3 points for the apparently hapless Kickhams from north Belfast. With this games second quarter now entered Lisbellaws full forward John Duffy returned smartly to the scoring plate, when he blasted home St Patricks third goal. The same player a little later added his third and his sides fourth point.  However the ever resilient Ardoyne quickly struck back, when their right half forward Eamon Mc Laughlin clipped over Kickhams fourth and fifth points.  With less than five minutes to this games interval then Lisbellaw hosts dramatically put their feet back on the scoring plate, when their big mid-fielder J.P. McGarry who floated in a millimetre perfect pass to his team mate and left full forward Declan O'Brien who parried the ball into the Kickhamís now fiercely guarded net his sides fourth and final goal.  In the remaining few minutes of the opening half they now very visibly stung Ardoyne visitors immediately and very purposefully laid siege to their hosts defences, alas for them the St Patricks goalie Eoin Markey and his backs were in resolute and uncompromising mood and refusing to concede even a solitary minor score until this matches interval. Half time scores Lisbellaw St Patricks, 4 gls. 7 pts.  Ardoyne Kickhams, 0 gl. 5 pts.  Second half Ardoyne come firmly out of their starting blocks. As in the games opening half it was this matches hosts who successfully marched up to the scoring plate in the iconic figure of John Duffy when they St Patricks full forward pucked over his fourth and his sides eight point.  Lisbellaws next well taken scoring came unsurprisingly from the well honed stick of their big mid-fielder J.P. McGarry who repeatedly from the centre of the park fired over his sides ninth and tenth points.  With this games fourth and final quarter fast approaching, a sense of urgency now grip both Ardoyne side line management and on field players. Goaded on by the former the Kickhamís now firmly and successfully raced up to the scoring plate in the face of left half forward Sean Searl who seized on an outgoing St Patricks slithor and return it with much interest to bang home his sideís first goal.  Though the Lisbellaw side attempted to add to their quartet of brilliantly taken goals they St Patrick lads now had to content with two cleverly taken points by Lisbellaws right half forward Sean Corrigan.  Hardly had the Ardoyne goalieís puck arrived down field when now rampant Ardoyne lads when seeking another major score.  Recently arrived on field sub Paul Barker who immediately after his side were awarded a close in free, blasted home his sideís second goal.  With less than five minutes to these games the north Belfast side got another win to their backs, and they now raced up field for another major score.  As in the two previous attempts, they were on this occasion again successful when their super sub Paul Barker fired home their third and final goal.  Again they north they north Belfast side attempted to reduce the massive scoring difference between themselves and their hostís Lisbellaw. Alas for them they had to content with a solitary point, pucked over Kickhams Aaron Stewart his sideís final and only point of the closing half.  Whilst their hosts St Patrickís had their thirteenth and final point from the artistic held stick of right half forward Sean Corrigan.  Final scores Lisbellaw St Patrickís, 4 gls. 13 pts.  Ardoyne Kickhamís, 3 gls 6 pts.
