Knock's Grattan's, 2 gls. 1 pt.
Scoreboard didn't tell it all.
For once the final score line didn't do justice to the tenacious performance put up by a Knock's side who contested every slithor and battled to the very end to attempt to contain a very silky and skilful victorious Lisbellaw winners who ran out comfortably winners with a final score of 9 goals 7 points to 2 goals 1 point for the defeated Knock's side. The hapless Grattan side in the final shake up were comprehensively by the obviously greater scoring power of the victorious winning attackers of Lisbellaw in particular to their full forward line from left full forward Eoin Cleary who fired in and over a grand total of 3 goals 2 points, and then his team mate and full forward Micky Williamson who blasted home 2 goals, the left forward joined with a modes 1 goal. One hurler in the half forward line Paul McElroy went a score better with a tally of 1 goal 1 point. Then the two man mid-field also got into the scoring attack, when Connor McShea and his close colleague Barrie Duffy pucked over 3 lovely points. In the immediate defence line behind them St Patrick's centre half back Jack Gavin lofted a 1 pointer from the centre of the park.
The Lisbellaw Defence Were Superb
This magnificent Lisbellaw under 12 Hurling League Final victory of 2008 would not have been possible without the superbly orchestrated defence, who closed down most of the repeated attacks by an adventurous Grattan's forwards and mid-field men who right up to the games last minute sought scores. The outstanding St Patrick's defenders were, centre half back Jack Gavin who repeatedly turned defence into attack. He was but part of star studded three line rearguard that full back Connor Durneen, and along side him at left half back Connor Goodwin, and substitute Stephen Breen were outstanding.
