Belnaleck came agonisingly close to ending Derrygonnelly Harps' bid for a five-in-a-row of New York Cups last evening.
In a tense semi-final at Brewster Park, Darragh McBrien had a late chance to win it for last year's intermediate champions, but his free from outside the '45 drifted to the right and wide as the holders held on for an 0-8 apiece draw.
With Garvan Jones and Conall Jones scoring two points each, the Harps opened up a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after 20 minutes, but Belnaleck had reduced the gap to two points, 0-4 to 0-6, by half-time. Despite losing county star Che Cullen to a black card, the underdogs levelled in the 39th minute through Darragh McGurn before taking the lead for the first time from a McBrien free.
But a Conall Jones free in the 60th minute earned Derrygonnelly a second bite at the cherry.
