Rory Gallagher has hinted that some of his backroom team may be interested in stepping into the role that he surprisingly vacated earlier this week.

Having been appointed as Fermanagh manager in September 2017, Gallagher proceeded to gain promotion with his native county, from Division Three to Two where they were one game away from reaching the top division.

The Erne County reached only their sixth ever Ulster SFC final during his reign and supporters were buoyed by their team’s performance.

However, the former Donegal manager has decided to step down from the role and when thanking his backroom team, he indicated to the Fermanagh Herald that some could be interested in making the step up to fill his boots.

“I’d have special word of thanks for the backroom team,” said Gallagher. Leon (Carters) has been invaluable to us.

“Shane (McCabe), Ronan (Gallagher) and I particularly want to say thanks to Ricey (Ryan McMenamin). He came in from another county and brought in massive experience.

“I know a number of the backroom team were keen to stay, so whatever the future holds maybe some of them will stay involved.”
