Despite coming out on the wrong side of a one-point defeat, Fermanagh manager Sean Duffy was pleased with his side’s performance in their NHL 3A league opener against Sligo.

The Connacht side were raging hot favourites to claim a first day win, but Fermanagh put in a huge performance and were unfortunate not to get something from the game.

Sligo had to rely on a last minute point to ensure the win and Duffy was not too despondent when talking to the Fermanagh Herald after the game.

“I thought we deserved at least a point out of the game,” said Duffy. “But we will take a lot of optimism from the performance and the boys can take a lot of credit for it.

“The defeat however does mean that we have a more or less must win game next time out against Longford if we are to make the league final.”
