Gerry Reilly Cup bigger and better

May 09, 2018

Monaghan defeated Meath in last years thrilling final at Millbrook

The launch of the 2018 Leinster Gerry Reilly U-16 Football Tournament which will take place on this Thursday 10th May at 7:30pm in the Show Hall, Oldcastle.

The tournament is being run in conjunction with Leinster Development.

16 teams are taking part this year (11 Leinster and 5 Ulster teams). Monaghan are the defending champions. The quarter finals, semi finals and finals will be held in Oldcastle.

This tournament commemorates Gerry Reilly who died tragically in December '87 at 16 years of age, and he had already proved to be a great footballer with huge potential to go on to great heights in the game. The competition has proved a great success in providing a platform to launch inter-county football careers. So many players have made it all the way to represent their senior county teams at the highest level. Indeed many went on to be Football All-Stars
