The Dublin footballers are not expecting Rory O'Carroll to return in 2017.

The Dubs retained the 2016 All-Ireland title without their influential full back, who took the year off to travel, and it appears that O'Carroll intends to settle in New Zealand and won't be returning any time soon.

"As far as I understand, he won't be back," his former team-mate Paul Mannion told The Irish Times. "He only arrived in New Zealand a few weeks back. He's looking to get a job there now and he's got his girlfriend there so he seems happy out.

"I don't expect him to be back next year. We'd love to have him back and we all wish him well but he's happy so that's the most important thing."
