Dublin hurling manager Ger Cunningham will, once again, have to plan without the services of Danny Sutcliffe for 2017.

12 months ago, the 2013 All-Star hurler quit the metropolitans' squad - citing study commitments as the reason.

Hopes that he may return to the fold next year have been dashed with County Board chairman Sean Shanley informing The Irish Daily Star that the talented half-forward intends to go travelling.

"Apparently, Danny Sutcliffe plans to travel abroad next year, just like (Dublin footballers) Rory O'Carroll and Jack McCaffrey did this year," Shanley revealed.

"So he'll be out of the country for a considerable part of the year and as a result he won't be in a position to make himself available for the county hurlers.

"Obviously it's disappointing news for Ger Cunningham and his backroom team but hopefully it won't prove too much of a setback in next year's League and Championship."
