A Garda Sergeant has warned GAA clubs to be extra vigilant when moving money like gate receipts as there is no doubt that they are being watched.

Sergeant Peter McConnon of the Garda Crime Prevention Unit was speaking to the Kilkenny County Board at the first ever meeting held at St Kieran's College.

The former Kildare footballer is promoting the 'Lock up and Light up' Garda crime prevention programme.

"Cash is a sought after commodity. If you are moving it, be careful," the Kilkenny People reports the Sergeant as stating.

"Have your checks in place. Use the Gardai when transporting money. Don't take chances. If they get €2,000 they will be back. If they get €200, maybe not. Don't be afraid to spend pennies to save pounds."
