Michael Darragh MacAuley has paid tribute to his former Dublin team-mate Ger Brennan.
The pair won All-Ireland medals together in 2011 and 2013 but Brennan missed out on this year's success through injury before this week announcing his enforced retirement from intercounty action.
"Ger was a huge player for Dublin over the years," MDMA is quoted in The Irish Independent. "He is a leader on and off the pitch, he's a big presence in the dressing room. And he's definitely one of the guys you'd look to in the heat of battle as well. He's a huge loss to Dublin.
"And he had a few long seasons with St Vincent's as well. That probably didn't do his injuries any favours.
"He was unlucky that he couldn't get them right again. It's a sad day for Dublin but knowing Ger his head is in the right place and hopefully he's happy with his decisions.
"I thought his injuries were coming on and on-track but Ger knows best, I did know there were a few hiccups along the way and he had a few ops or whatever.
"It's unfortunate he wasn't able to get the body fully right but it wasn't for a lack of effort, he gave it a lot of work and rehab to try and get himself right."
