Philly McMahon's controversial clash with Kieran Donaghy may have cost him the Sunday Game RTE All-Ireland final Man of the Match award.

According to yesterday's Sunday World, McMahon was the Sunday Game panel's initial choice for the individual honour, only for the pundits to change their mind after reviewing footage of the controversial incident which took place in the closing stages of the Dublin-Kerry final.

The RTE highlights show came in for criticism on social media for its lack of analysis of the 65th minute flashpoint, which saw Donaghy complain to referee David Coldrick after McMahon appeared to eye gouge him. The Dublin defender is expected to receive a one-match ban from the CCCC, despite pleading his innocence.

Young Raheny midfielder Brian Fenton proved to be a popular recipient of the coveted Man of the Match award.
