Dublin and Armagh accept punishment

Dublin's Paul Flynn has Armagh's Andy Mallon for company during the qualifier game at Croke Park.

Dublin and Armagh have accepted the fines and bans issued to them from last month's infamous challenge match in Glasnevin.

The Irish Examiner reports that both counties acknowledged their players did wrong when they became embroiled in a melee prior to throw-in in the game, which saw Dublin's Davey Byrne suffer facial injuries as a result.

Both counties accepted fines of €10,000 each at last night's Central Hearings Committee meeting, while an Armagh player has been handed a one match ban which he will serve in the first round of next year's National League campaign.

The incident was drawn to the Central Competition Control Committee's attention when Dublin boss Jim Gavin revealed in an interview in the build-up to the Westmeath game: "Regrettably, an incident took place before a recent challenge game against Armagh."

Dublin take on Mayo tomorrow afternoon in the All-Ireland SFC semi-final at Croke Park (throw-in 3.30pm).
