Jim Gavin didn't rise to the bait when questioned about Darragh O Se's remarks regarding Diarmuid Connolly's temperament in the lead-up to Dublin's Leinster SFC semi-final win over Kildare.

In his Irish Times column, O Se said of Connolly: "So how do you get at Connolly? To me, there's still a bit of a scamp in him. His temperament has got better over the years but I still think there's something to be said for pulling his tail and seeing if he'll hiss back at you."

Connolly was yellow-carded along with Kildare's Padraig O'Neill in the second half, but it didn't take away from what was another superb performance from the St. Vincent's man who finished the game with 2-3.

"I learned a long time ago when Kerry talk about other counties, I take it with a pinch of salt," Gavin said.

The Dublin manager was pleased with his side's discipline as they turn their thoughts to another Leinster final against Westmeath on July 12.

"It's a physical contact sport and we have to ensure that we always have that and the rules don't take that away. That's why hurling is a great game, they haven't lost that and it's important that Gaelic football doesn't lose it either.

"Discipline is one of our core philosophies and everything is based around that. Players know my views on it and I was satisfied that they held their disciplined."

He added: "Overall, a good day at the office but we prepared very diligently for it over the past four weeks and we knew we had to turn up today to get a performance."
