Dublin U-21 hurling manager Joe Fortune is hopeful that he will be able to call upon the services of senior footballers Cormac Costello and Eric Lowndes this year.

Speaking to The Irish Daily Star, Fortune revealed that senior football boss Jim Gavin is open to the possibility of the two players featuring against Kilkenny on June 2nd.

"The two lads said at the start of the year that they were interested in under-21 hurling," Fortune commented.

"Cormac was out with us at the start of the year, the two lads are interested, but it will depend on how much hurling they can get done between now and the Kilkenny game in six weeks' time.

"It was put on a plate for them since last November really. We expressed an interest in having them on board and the two lads said that they would like to be involved.

"Since the footballers were knocked out last weekend by Tipperary, that might have been a shock to a lot of people.

"From our own perspective , I wanted the two lads to concentrate on the fact that they hads a league final on Sunday, and my plan in my own head is once that's done, we're training next week and I'd love to see the lads there.

"It will depend on their interaction with the footballers is going to be at that stage.

"To be fair to Jim, he has said that's left the door open for the two boys to play hurling too and Jim has been very good to talk to in regards to that.

"So it's down to the players, I suppose, and what they can do."
