DJ impressed by rejigged Dubs

The positional switches implemented by Dublin for their national hurling league victory over Tipperary get a thumbs-up from DJ Carey.

The Kilkenny legend was impressed by how many of the Dubs performed in unfamiliar roles as the Premier County were torn asunder at Parnell Park on Sunday:

"The accusation levelled at Dublin following their slump last year was that they had gone stale and needed rejuvenation and Ger Cunningham has tried to do that by rejigging the team positionally," DJ writes in The Irish Daily Mirror.

"On Sunday's evidence at least, it appears to have worked. It took courage, too.

"In Peter Kelly and Liam Rushe, he had an All Star full back and centre back respectively, yet he moved them elsewhere on the spine of the team.

"Kelly was excellent at centre back, while Rushe was a real nuisance at full forward, marrying his strength and natural hurling ability extremely well.

"Conal Keaney, way back in his first coming as a Dublin hurler, looked to have all the makings of a formidable centre back, so it should be no surprise that he could do a job in the half back line not to mention a variety of other positions.

"Michael Carton's move from wing back to full back has also been seamless."
