Ger Brennan says he wants to win another All-Ireland with Dublin before bringing an end to his illustrious intercounty career.

The All-Ireland winning centre back of 2011 and 2013 missed last summer's championship campaign due to an ongoing Achilles problem but has been instrumental in St Vincent's second successive Leinster club success

"I want to finish playing on a high. I want to win another Leinster and All-Ireland with the county," he told The Irish Daily Star. "I want to win it by playing and not sitting on the sideline or coming in or out.

"That's something I will have to work on to put questions in Jim Gavin's mind to make sure that I am in the team. But I will worry about that after this run with the club."

Regarding his injury, the 29-year-old defensive linchpin adds: I picked up an Achilles thing towards April. "When I went back with Dublin it really hurt in training," he recalled.

"I had an operation where they just tried to decompress the area. I had a lot of tension and pressure there around the Achilles.

"It hasn't cleared up yet. It's still at me but it is a lot better than it was. If it didn't clear up I was knackered because you couldn't play at that intensity and have your full wits about you.

"I'm going to rest up now. I won't do a whole lot of running over the next few weeks, stay in the gym, cycling, swimming to keep aerobically fit.

"You learn to deal with these things. You have to tailor your training regime to ensure that you are fit come the game. I will continue to do that. You get through it once you rest - it's probably a rest that I need."
