Ageless Geraghty to play in Sigerson again

Clann na nGael's Graham Geraghty.

Graham Geraghty will once again line out for IT Blanchardstown in the Sigerson Cup next year.

The Meath legend made his debut in the premier third-level football competition at the age of 40 earlier this year after returning to college to study Social & Community Development, and is gearing up for one more season as player/manager of the west Dublin outfit.

"I play full forward or corner forward, more than likely ending up roaming out around the middle," he told the Irish Independent at the launch of yesterday's 2015 Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups.

"I'm still enjoying it, and it's great to be able to play at my age still, and to pass on maybe some of your experience to some of the younger lads that are coming in.

"The Sigerson is a huge step up for the players, but it's great experience for them."

The 1999 All-Ireland winning captain, who continues to play club football with Clann na nGael, remains hopeful that Meath can break Dublin's dominance in Leinster, despite their 16-point pummeling at the hands of Jim Gavin's men this year.

"Do I see an All-Ireland in Meath in the next four or five years? I don't think so," he continued.

"But when it comes to Dublin, Meath on any day can put it up to them and with a bit of luck could beat them. We've seen this year, Dublin were very strong. I thought they would go on to win the All-Ireland but whether they were caught on the hop, or just took their foot off the gas a bit, I don't know.

"But I still think they're the best team in the country, even though they didn't win the All-Ireland.

"Meath, to me, are probably the second best team in Leinster at the minute. Whether they can step up to another level and play at the speed and tempo that Dublin are playing at, is another question, but hopefully this year will bring good things."
